2nd Meeting with Vanessa deVinet
Well to say I am astounded is an understatement. I met with Vanessa deVinet today and explained all that had transpired to date. I showed her the boxes, the contents they revealed and my observations about the items. She smiled – saying I had “passed the tests.” I didn’t know I was being tested and asked her to clarify.
She explained the information I found in the library wasn’t intended for me to find Arktos-By-The-Sea but to actually find the first box (a letter writing box). Had I not gone to the library to search for facts (test #1), I would not have found the intended object of my search (test #2). My journey would have ended there – with the flying foxes.
The first box (a portable writing desk) was intended to assess (test #3) my capacity to look beyond logic and physics (it being larger on the inside than on the outside); which lead me to the discovery of a second box (the apothecary chest). I told Vanessa deVinet I noticed the second box seemed to have a hidden area but I was unable to pry the panel open. She told me that challenge was to see if I would seek help when needed – and that only she knew how to open the secret compartment. So when I sent Percy to get Vanessa I had passed test #4.
I attempted to ask questions about each of the items I had discovered. She said she could not yet explain, but what was hidden in the secret compartment would provide more information for my quest. She opened the chest without the use of a key (I was sure I had locked it – but perhaps I had not). She then reached in the chest, pushed a button or pulled a lever in the upper right corner; I heard a click and observed the back panel mysteriously slide open.
I tried to get a closer look at the compartment, but Vanessa quickly pulled out a few items that looked like official documents, closed the panel and handed the following to me:
1. A map with unusual markings
2. A circle of symbols (see puzzle)

3. A letter from someone named Arch Archon Archibald
She told me to review the documents, which I promptly started to do – when I looked up to ask a question, Vanessa deVinet was gone. I glanced over to Percy who handed me another box (with a key)! Inside was a note and a little red book.
I also noted both the first two boxes were gone. Percy indicated they would be returned to me once I was safely in ABTS. I looked at Percy, and asked what he knew about Vanessa deVinet; he only shrugged his shoulders and smiled!
I bade farewell to the Grey Nomads with whom I was staying, we agreed to stay in touch. They are on their trek around Australia and will return (someday) to learn more about this mysterious land beyond here...
I wonder what awaits me in Arktos-By-The-Sea? Soon I (and you) shall know!
Four tests (so far)
1. Searching for information – knowing where to go to find facts to answer my questions.
2. Finding a hidden box - to establish my powers of observation.
3. Noting a box is larger on the inside than the outside – to verify my ability to look beyond logic (common sense) and physics (science).
4. Inability to open a compartment (and not destroying something I don’t understand) – a test of my willingness to ask for help.
