Journal Entry

I watched from a distance as the two little bears (Raftus & Rufus Rufenuf) I had met previously, played behind some bushes. They had a piece of string tied to the bottom of a gate while they hid behind some bushes about 6 feet away. I wondered what kind of game or ritual they might be involved in, so I decided to remain hidden behind a tree to observe. I could hear their laughter as a brown bear walked quickly towards the gate, jingling as she went – she had dozens and dozens of keys.

I watched as she pushed, pulled and wiggled the gate, just as I was about to go and see what was happening I saw keys fly in the air, the brown bear landed on the ground and the two little bears ran towards me. They were laughing and were quite amused at themselves, and told me what they had done. I rushed over to help the now smiling brown bear sitting on the ground, who introduced herself as Kirsty Keykeep, Arktos-By-The-Sea Keeper-of-the-Keys.

What a grand title I thought to myself. She invited me to her home, the Locksmith. I told her in my rush to help her I had left my bag by the tree, so would go get it then we could be off. When I returned to the tree, there was a note from the Little Tuffs “sorry PJ we forgot to give this to you – it’s another page about us from the Ancient Book.”

They may be mischievous little bears, but they are thoughtful.

And more about my visit with Kirsty in my next entry - she also gave me two pages from the Ancient Book (pages 75 & 76).
